The History of the Baby Stroller
The first kind of stroller to emerge was the pram or baby carriage. It was developed in 1733 by William Kent. It was big actually so big that it had to be dragged by a small pony or goat. They were too expensive for normal people of that time and only wealthy people could afford to get a pram.
In the 1830s Benjamin Potter Crandall started to sell the first baby carriages in America and they quickly became popular amongst people who could afford them. They were hand built from heavy wood and brass which made them very beautiful but also fairly expensive.
In the beginning of the 20 century the baby carriage became more available to the general population. They were now produced in factories and built from modern materials. This made them cheap and affordable for normal families.
With newer designs and educated engineers supervising the production and design, the baby carriages became safe, lighter and easier to use. Such things we take for granted today like brakes and big wheels were now added to the baby carriages.
It was in 1965 the first real stroller appeared on the market. It was Owen Maclaren who after receiving complaints from his daughter about the heavy baby carriage, he developed the umbrella stroller. By using an aluminum frame he could keep the weight down but still make a durable stroller.
Today we rarely see any baby carriages. They are too heavy and cumbersome. Instead the modern stroller has taken over, with the ability to recline the seat it can function as a baby carriage when the child is young and be turned into stroller as the child gets older and bigger.
There are many different models of strollers available today. Travel systems, jogging strollers and double strollers just to name a few. For new parents this often seems overwhelming but to know what one's own needs are, choosing a stroller shouldn't be difficult.
The travel system combines the baby carriage and the stroller. The seat is removable and can be switched out with a bassinet to transform the stroller into a baby carriage. The seat can often also be exchanged with a car seat allowing the baby to be moved from the car to the stroller without disturbing it too much.
The jogging stroller is a more modern model. It is a light stroller with big wheels. It is as the name implies designed for jogging or running. Its big wheels make the stroller stable and easy to push over more difficult terrain. It has become more popular amongst most people for its light weight and maneuverability.
The double stroller is another popular stroller for families with multiple children. It works great for those with twins and children of different ages. Being able to have two kids in the same stroller makes life easier for parents compared to having two strollers to push.
Strollers are overall a great invention giving parents some relief from carrying around the babies all the time. On the other hand carrying one's child brings more physical closeness and comfort to the baby, so don't forget to hold your child close to you from time to time.

Top 5 Double Strollers 2010 - The Best Sellers
For those parents who have two small children, the top 5 double strollers list might not just be considered a good starting resource list, but any one of them might even be considered a "lifesaver" that adds some much needed convenience to parents lives.
For the year of 2010, here are the hottest selling double strollers that also have at least above average consumer reviews:
1. Baby Jogger City Mini Double - This stroller comes from a name that is consistent with amazing quality and a sort of "intuitiveness" into what parents really need. Not only is it quite comfortable for little ones, but it is rather light as well (especially for a double stroller). It is a side-by-side model, so two little ones can benefit from the view. Retail price for this stroller is around 0, and it may be possible to purchase it online for less although it is best if a shopper plans to pay the list price.
2. Jeep Wrangler Twin Double - This stroller lies in a lower price range than the City Mini, and is a good choice for parents who live in an area where the temperatures change a good deal with the seasons. It features a roll down attachment on the seat that can be used to block the wind in colder climates, and when rolled up it functions as a pillow for little ones. This stroller is also a side-by-side model. Retail price for the Jeep Wrangler Twin is around 0-0 depending on the exact model chosen, and most definitely can be found for a discount price online.
3. Graco Quattro Tour Duo - This model of stroller is a tandem (one child in front of the other), and is known for its excellent suspension for a smooth ride, as well easy fold-up and ability to maneuver well. Retail price for the Quattro Tour Duo is around 0, but I have recently found them to be priced as low as around 7 from specific online merchants.
4. Kolcraft Contours Options Double - This stroller is rather amazing in terms of its seat maneuverability - children can even sit facing each other while riding! Basically it is a tandem stroller (one child in front, the other in back) but with the handy seat changing (and removing) features, this could just be one of the most convenient strollers ever, depending on parents' needs. Retail price for this stroller is around 0 - 0 (depending on the version chosen), and can be found for a nice discount online.
5. Peg Perego Aria Double - The highlight of this stroller is the fact that it is especially made for two children of different ages. It is a side-by-side stroller, one of the seats able to accommodate a Peg Perego car seat, the other for a larger size youngster. Peg Perego strollers and seats are widely known for their amazing quality and safety features, and this stroller appears to be no exception to this. Retail price for the Peg Perego Aria Double is around 0, but can most definitely be found at a price much lower than that from some online resources.
For anyone who is shopping for a great "duo" stroller for 2010 (and beyond), the list of the top 5 double strollers for 2010 is at least a great place to start.

How To Choose The Right Jogging Stroller
Jogging strollers are those that are designed to help parents maintain a healthy lifestyle. They are designed for moms and dads who would like to rollerblade, walk or run while pushing their children. They are also known as running strollers or jogger strollers because they allow parents to spend quality time with their children and exercise at the same time.
Jogging strollers come with two wheels on the sides and one large wheel in front. A handrail allows the parent to push the child while walking or jogging.
The child is buckled up in front so you are assured that the child is protected while you are running or walking behind. Many jogging stroller models also have canopies that protect your child from the heat of the sun.
Kinds of Jogging Strollers
1. Heavy-Duty - this kind of stroller model has strong shock absorbers that are ideal for rugged paths, which give the baby a smoother ride. Heavy-duty jogging strollers usually come with 20-inch wheels that have dirt deflectors.
2. Lightweight - this kind usually has 16-inch wheels, is less expensive and weighs less than heavy-duty strollers. However, they may not be able to absorb shock better than heavy-duty models do.
3. Double Strollers - provides seats for two children so you can push your children at the same time without having to use two separate strollers that can be difficult to maneuver. The added weight can add up to the exercise, which is a good thing if you are trying to lose weight.
Advantages
The wheels of a jogging stroller are usually larger than those of common strollers. They allow easy navigation in various terrains, which is not possible with the standard stroller wheels. You can also easily navigate them to different directions and around corners and curves.
Some brands offer models with fixed or swivel wheel designs. A fixed wheel design has the front wheel locked in one direction parallel with the wheels on the rear side. This allows the wheels to roll in the same direction for a smoother ride. The swivel wheel design is ideal for parents who run in irregular terrains because they are easier to maneuver. There are jogging strollers that are designed for fast-paced walkers, slow-paced walkers, joggers and serious runners.
While these strollers are fine when used in the park or when taking a stroll around the neighborhood, you will find them difficult to maneuver in restaurants, grocery stores and other similar venues that are usually overcrowded with people. It is easy to bump into other people or run over people's toes.
You also need to take caution when using jogging strollers. Parents are not advised to use them with babies under one year old because the constant movement can make the baby uncomfortable. It is also not safe even if the stroller has a shoulder harness because whenever the stroller is in motion, the baby may get jostled or bumped. Even if your child is more than one year old, you should still take extra caution. Try not to run too fast while pushing the baby. Hold the handrails tightly and avoid rough roads to minimize bumping.
